ENROL YOUR LITTLE ARTIST

A little glimpse into my previous children’s art classes at Lillian Gray Art School in South Africa. Real students, real creativity, real messy hands!

Big creativity starts small.

I believe every child is an artist. They just need the freedom to explore, the right materials to experiment with and a little guidance to discover what they can do.

We combine the joy of creative play with the foundations of real art education.

Children are encouraged to get their hands messy, experiment with exciting materials, explore colour and texture, and discover the magic of making something entirely their own.

But there’s also a method behind the mess!

Drawing on my years of experience teaching art and running an art school in South Africa, I’ve designed a structured, age-appropriate curriculum that introduces children to four essential artistic disciplines.

Each lesson balances playful exploration with gentle, step-by-step instruction, helping children develop artistic skills, confidence, independence and creative thinking.

The goal isn’t to create eight identical masterpieces. It’s to nurture eight wonderfully different little artists.

A Little Play. A Little Learning. A Lot of Creativity.

Why 90mins? My child won’t sit still.

Yes and I don’t expect them to. Our lessons are carefully structured around the way young children learn best: through exploration, movement, discovery and hands-on experiences.

Every 90-minute lesson includes:

  • Welcome & Creative Warm-Up: A gentle introduction to the day’s artistic adventure.

  • Explore & Experiment: Fifteen wonderful minutes of discovering our materials. Squish the clay, test the brushes, play with colour and satisfy those curious little fingers!
  • Watch & Learn: We gather together for a short, engaging art demonstration.
  • Guided Creative Time: Children follow simple steps while making their own artistic choices.
  • Dance & Movement Break: Time to wiggle, stretch, drink water and recharge.
  • Finish Our Masterpieces: We settle back into our creative work, adding those final special touches.
  • Tidy-Up Time: Learning to care for our materials and creative space is part of being an artist too!

Our small class size means every child receives individual attention, encouragement and support.

Maximum 8 children. Two instructors. Plenty of room for little imaginations to grow.

Art Mediums Taught

We’ll explore a variety of artistic mediums, gradually building on what we’ve learned throughout the season.

Drawing — Learning to See

Every great artist starts somewhere!

Through playful drawing activities, children discover lines, shapes, patterns, textures and the joy of observing the world around them. We’ll experiment with different drawing tools and learn how simple marks can become wonderful pictures.

Lines, shapes, observation, patterns, texture, basic composition and hand-eye coordination.

Clay — Little Hands, Big Creations

Time to squish, roll, pinch and sculpt!

Working with air-dry clay, children explore the exciting world of three-dimensional art. We’ll discover how to create forms, join shapes, build imaginative sculptures and turn a simple lump of clay into something extraordinary.

Rolling, pinching, joining, building three-dimensional forms, and creating playful sculptures.

Mixed Media –

Let’s Experiment!

What happens when we combine different materials and techniques?

Children will discover the magic of collage, layering and texture. This is where experimentation takes centre stage as we explore exciting ways of making marks and creating colourful compositions.

Collage, textures, layering, found objects, composition and discovering how different materials work together.

Painting — Discovering Colour

Brushes ready!

Our little artists will explore colour mixing, brush techniques, expressive mark-making and learn how to paint with on an easel. We’ll learn how to use our brushes with growing confidence, mix new colours and create paintings full of personality. As the season progresses, lessons build on previously learned skills, giving children the opportunity to grow as young artists.

Colour mixing, brush control, warm and cool colours, paint application and expressive painting.

Printmaking – Making an Impression!

Discover the magic of printmaking as we experiment with foam prints, potato stamps, leaves and everyday objects. Children will explore exciting textures, patterns and shapes while discovering the wonderful surprises that happen when we transfer colour from one surface to another. We’ll also introduce positive and negative space, learning how the shapes we leave behind can be just as exciting as the ones we print!

Stamping, layering, exploring textures, creating patterns, discovering positive and negative space, and making colourful prints.

Oil Pastels — Bold Colours, Big Expressions!

Let’s scribble, blend, scrape and explore!

Discover the vibrant world of oil pastels as we experiment with rich colours, exciting textures and expressive mark-making. Children will learn how to blend and layer colours, scratch through surfaces to reveal hidden colours, and create bold, beautiful artworks bursting with personality. We’ll explore the magic of mixing colours directly on paper and discover how simple strokes can create extraordinary effects!

Blending, layering, colour mixing, scraping (sgraffito), exploring textures, expressive mark-making, and creating vibrant artworks.

Every Little Artist Deserves an Exhibition.

Mark your calendars, parents and grandparents!

9 April 2027 16:00 – 19:30

What better way to celebrate a season of creativity than with a real art exhibition?

In April 2027, we’ll invite our little artists and their families to a special exhibition in the Lillian Gray Art Studio.

We’ll transform our studio into a mini gallery, displaying the beautiful drawings, sculptures, prints and paintings created throughout the programme.

Parents can enjoy drinks and snacks while the children proudly show off their artistic achievements.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their creativity, confidence and everything they’ve learned.

The exhibition is included in the programme.

Meet your teacher

Hi, I’m Lillian Gray!

I’m a professional artist, illustrator, art educator and founder of the Lillian Gray Art School in South Africa.

I’ve spent years helping children and adults discover their creativity, develop artistic skills and fall in love with making art.

Since moving to Munich, I’ve established my own home art studio, where I teach weekly adult classes and creative workshops.

Now I’m excited to introduce a little something for our youngest artists!

As an artist and mother of five, I understand just how imaginative, curious and wonderfully messy young children can be.

I wanted to create a programme that gives children the freedom to explore while gently introducing them to the fundamentals of art.

I’ll lead the creative programme alongside a German-speaking teaching assistant, ensuring every child feels comfortable, supported and encouraged.

Lessons are taught in German, with English support available.

I can’t wait to welcome your little artist into my studio!
