Currents and Corals
This painting is the result of countless hours of exploration into optical color mixing theory. I wanted to see how far I could push the eye’s ability to create vibrancy from pure, unmixed color. Rather than pre-blending pigments, I’ve applied distinct, jewel-toned dabs of color directly to the canvas, side-by-side.
Look closely at the form of the octopus. Every tentacle, every suckle point, is a mosaic of vivid reds, electric yellows, and cool blues. It’s a true optical dance as your eyes blend thousands of distinct points into the shimmering, dynamic creature you see. The purple corals and the sun-dappled rays above follow the same principle, creating a depth and sparkle that feels truly alive. It’s a burst of joy from the ocean’s heart, ready to light up any room.
