A quiet winter woodland scene inspired by the Bavarian landscape, where pale snow, slender birch trees and a soft pink evening sky create a peaceful sense of stillness. Rich palette knife textures bring the bark and snowy ground to life.

Original Oil Painting by Lillian Gray

Winter Light in Bavaria captures the hushed beauty of a snowy woodland at day’s end.

Painted in oils with expressive palette knife work, this intimate landscape explores the delicate colours of winter in Bavaria — soft blush pinks, lavender shadows, icy blues and warm peach tones glowing behind the trees. Slender birch trunks rise through the composition, their textured bark catching the last light of the evening, while long shadows stretch across the snow-covered ground.

The use of a palette knife gives the painting a tactile, almost sculptural quality, especially in the tree trunks, where the thickly layered paint adds depth and character. Though modest in scale, the work has a quiet presence and evokes the calm, reflective beauty of a Bavarian winter forest.
