Things you need to know about the lessons

To keep it intimate, all classes are limited to 10 people – this ensures focused attention.
Every student works on their own projects at their own level and speed.
I encourage my students to work in the medium of their choice, watercolour, oils, acrylic, charcoal, linocut etc, I will guide you.
Art history is a true passion of mine and I pride myself in doing extensive research and bringing that knowledge and passion into all my lessons. It helps to know we are standing on the shoulders of giants.

You are never too young or too old to start your art journey. So, if you are a beginner or intermediate artist and keen to take your art to the next level, please join me. Or, if you love dabbling in creativity, looking to make new friends in Munich, and loving interesting, stimulating conversations, please join.

I offer a tailor made art education, adjusting the lessons according to your level and interests while providing a solid foundation for you to become proficient as a private, professional or non-commercial artist. Whether you wish to further your artistic career, excite your creative mind, socialize or just unwind, I celebrate your enthusiasm. I cater for the beginner student as well as the advanced art student.

Meet your teacher

Hello, I am artist Lillian Gray and I am passionate about art and art history.

As an artist, I am known for painting large, bright portraits and capturing people’s stories. You can check out my personal art on my website and insta – links below.

I have a degree in art and design. I am skilled in a variety of mediums including Pencil Drawing, Charcoal, Watercolours, Oils, Spray paint, Printmaking, Clay, Sculpture, and Oil Pastels. I am also a trained illustrator and have assisted big and small companies with their digital art and design needs.

The Lillian Gray Art School is my passion project. It is a highly acclaimed art school in South Africa which teaches students of all ages. The school was founded in 2016 and currently trains more than 220 students in almost all mediums. I remain an active partner in the business, working with my skilled business partner to ensure the curriculum remains varied and up to date. I personally oversee all content creation and fact-checking for our art history lessons.

In 2021, circumstances led to our family moving to Munich. Having integrated into my new living environment, I saw the need for a bespoke art studio offering a creative environment for like-minded people to develop and grow with each other.

Drawing with Graphite Pencil

Charcoal Drawing

Acrylic Painting

This dynamic medium can be applied thick to create more texture or thinned down for more delicate washes, allowing you to experiment with various techniques. It’s perfect for those who may lack patience, as it dries quickly and is ready to take home by the end of your lesson. As you explore the world of acrylics, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your own unique style.

Oil Painting

Learning to paint with oils, the medium of the masters, can initially feel daunting but offers an exhilarating journey as you master its unique characteristics. Linocut printmaking

Learning linocut printmaking introduces you to a captivating art form that combines carving and printing to create stunning, bold prints. You begin by designing your image, where stylized drawings work best. After that, you carve away the negative space, preserving the areas you want to print. Once the carving is complete, you can print your image multiple times and explore using various substrates, including materials like bags and T-shirts.

Watercolours

Learning to paint with watercolours allows you to explore the delicate interplay of color and transparency, creating soft washes and vibrant hues.
