A Life in Colour celebrates the extraordinary character of a tree shaped by time, nature and the passing seasons.
Standing proudly within a lush woodland, a magnificent old tree stretches its twisting branches across the sky. Its thick trunk, knotted bark and sprawling roots suggest a lifetime of growth, adaptation and endurance.
Rather than depicting the tree in traditional naturalistic colours, Lillian Gray uses a vibrant palette of turquoise, emerald green, electric yellow, magenta, violet and warm orange to reveal its expressive personality.
The richly coloured bark contrasts with the darker woodland beyond, while energetic brushwork and layered textures create movement throughout the composition. Soft pink clouds and glimpses of blue sky introduce a gentle sense of lightness to the surrounding forest.
The tree becomes more than a subject from nature. Its twisting branches and weathered trunk offer a quiet metaphor for the human experience — the challenges we overcome, the paths we take and the unique stories that shape who we become.
A Life in Colour is a celebration of resilience, individuality and the beauty of a life fully lived.
